Super Mario Bros Party Ideas
Nintendo’s most famous character – Super Mario – has been around now for over 25 years, but is still as popular as ever. A Super Mario party would be a great theme for any kid’s birthday party, boy or girl! Super Mario’s world is full of all kinds of fun and entertaining characters, from his plumber brother Luigi to the beautiful Princess Peach and the evil Bowser and his henchmen the Koopas. It’s possible to find all kinds of party supplies that match a Super Mario Party theme, from the invitations to the favor bags, but what about the all-important party activities? Here are some fun ideas for your Super Mario Party:
Super Mario Coloring Books – Kids just love to color; and what better way to color than using one of many exciting Super Mario coloring books. Kids can spend as much time as they want coloring all of their favorite Super Mario characters like Bowser, Luigi, and even Mario himself!
Yoshi Egg Smash – Yoshi is Super Mario’s little dragon friend, famous for his colorful collection of eggs. To play Yoshi Egg Smash, blow out the contents of several eggs and once they are hollow paint the eggshells like Yoshi’s (red, blue, yellow, green, and even purple spotted) and have the kids join in a game of Yoshi Egg Smash. If you are good with delicate crafts you could even remove a larger part of the bottom of the eggshell and fill it with paper stars and confetti so that when it breaks there is an extra special surprise!
Jump Contest – Mario has some pretty amazing jumping skills. Organize a jumping contest between the party guests to see who can jump like Mario. To make it a more challenging activity for older kids add obstacles like sturdy boxes to jump on and off from, just like Mario does in the games.
Rescue Princess Peach – Mario spends a lot of time rescuing his beloved Princess peach, usually from the clutches of the evil Bowser. This game calls for the services of two grown up volunteers – one to play Princess Peach, one to play Bowser. Create a trail through the house for the kids to follow, leading to the imprisoned damsel in distress. At various points along the route “Bowser” should appear to slow the kids down, just like in the game. This game can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, but it is always a lot of fun.
Super Mario Piñata – Try a piñata! Kids just love taking a whack at these fun party pleasers. Fill them with Mario toys and candy and let the kids have their turn at bat. I promise you, it’ll be big hit! You may also want to consider Super Mario bingo and bean-bag toss. Those classics are guaranteed winners for kids of all ages!
Play the Games – Perhaps no Super Mario party would be complete without a little video game time. Although there are many different Super Mario games available, the best for a party is of course one of the Super Mario Party titles. The newest is Super Mario Party 8, but all the games in the series are great for parties.
Super Mario Live and in Person! – Why not surprise your child and their guests with a visit from a real live Mario, Bowser, or Luigi? Try on a Mario mascot costume and put the biggest smile on your kid’s face you’ve ever seen!
